PRP Hair Restoration
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment originated from physicians using it to speed up recovery process after injuries and surgeries. Its use in hair restoration began when it was discovered that PRP prolongs the growing cycle of hair and stimulates dormant hair follicles thereby increasing hair growth.
Researchers have found that hair growth medication often delivers underwhelming results and may cause undesirable side effects. However, after undertaking four PRP procedures, patients experienced a 30-40% increase in hair growth (study).
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is derived from a patient’s own blood. It contains high levels of several platelet-derived growth factors (cytokines).
How it works
After the treatment area is cleaned and prepared we apply topical numbing cream and few injections with local anesthetic.
Then , the phlebotomist draws about 40 -80 ml of blood. Using a centrifuge, we isolate platelets and some plasma from the rest of the blood - all within about 5 minutes in the office!
Then, about half of the prepared platelet-rich plasma or PRP - is injected into the scalp within areas of hair loss.
Finally, the remaining PRP is applied on the skin surface and then a SkinPen containing 12 tiny micro-needles is utilized. This process results in thousands of superficial microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area.
